A note for the parent

What your child had to do in this Some Applications of Trigonometry problem

This was not a watch-and-copy exercise. The student had to make 7 small mathematical decisions and correct any wrong turns before moving forward.

The skill being built

Reasoning, not answer recognition

The horizontal AEAE splits the tower in two. Below it, ED=7ED = 7 m and tan⁡45∘\tan 45^\circ gives AE=7AE = 7 m. Above it, tan⁡60∘\tan 60^\circ gives CE=73CE = 7\sqrt{3} m. The tower is the sum: 7(3+1)7(\sqrt{3} + 1) m.

The mistake we watch for

A wrong answer is useful evidence

Stopping at CE=73CE = 7\sqrt{3} m, the part above eye level, and forgetting to add the 77 m below it.

What happens when a step goes wrong?

The choice is crossed out

The app does not pretend the mistake did not happen.

The reason is explained

The child sees the exact misconception behind that choice.

The child tries again

The app guides, but the student still makes the next decision.
