A note for the parent

What your child had to do in this Triangles problem

This was not a watch-and-copy exercise. The student had to make 4 small mathematical decisions and correct any wrong turns before moving forward.

The skill being built

Reasoning, not answer recognition

The parallel lines and the crossing at OO give a pair of similar triangles, △ODE∼△OCB\triangle ODE \sim \triangle OCB, by AA. Writing the correspondence in the right order gives ODOC=OEOB\dfrac{OD}{OC} = \dfrac{OE}{OB}, and cross-multiplying finishes the proof.

The mistake we watch for

A wrong answer is useful evidence

Matching DD with BB because both lie on side ABAB. In △ODE\triangle ODE and △OCB\triangle OCB, DD matches CC: they sit on the same line through OO, at the equal alternate angles.

What happens when a step goes wrong?

The choice is crossed out

The app does not pretend the mistake did not happen.

The reason is explained

The child sees the exact misconception behind that choice.

The child tries again

The app guides, but the student still makes the next decision.
