A note for the parent

What your child had to do in this Arithmetic Progressions problem

This was not a watch-and-copy exercise. The student had to make 7 small mathematical decisions and correct any wrong turns before moving forward.

The skill being built

Reasoning, not answer recognition

The sum formula gives the quadratic n2−17n+52=0n^2 - 17n + 52 = 0, so n=4n = 4 or n=13n = 13. Both are correct: the AP is decreasing, and terms 55 to 1313 cancel in pairs to 00, so S13=S4=78S_{13} = S_4 = 78.

The mistake we watch for

A wrong answer is useful evidence

Rejecting n=13n = 13 because it “cannot” give the same sum as 44 terms, and answering n=4n = 4 only.

What happens when a step goes wrong?

The choice is crossed out

The app does not pretend the mistake did not happen.

The reason is explained

The child sees the exact misconception behind that choice.

The child tries again

The app guides, but the student still makes the next decision.
